From Craignure - Salen - Ulva Ferry - Calgary - Dervaig - Glen Aros - head home.
From Pennygate Lodge head north (in the direction of Tobermory, to pass Craignure ferry terminal on your right). Turn at Salen across the island to the west coast (B8073). Head north following the dramatic coastline of Loch na Keal with wonderful views opening out to the islands beyond. Look out for otters on the shore & eagles soaring high as you drive along.
Take time to stop at the Eas Fors waterfall - one of the most spectacular waterfalls on the island - it's a couple of miles north of Ulva Ferry. There are captivating views across Loch Tuath to the community owned island of Ulva.
Lip Na Cloiche Gardens are amazing gardens created by owner Lucy. The beautifully planted gardens, landscaped with driftwood and other beachcombing treasures are on a steep hillside with a network of paths leading to a wonderful viewpoint. Plants, cards and hand-crafted seashore inspired gifts are on sale - see online for details. www.lipnacloiche.co.uk
Head along the coast looking out for the Treshnish Islands - summer home to puffins - before descending to Calgary Bay. The beach and bay at Calgary are truly stunning. Overlooking the bay is Calgary Arts & Crafts Centre with its art in nature woodland walk full of quirky art installations. Visit the Cafe & Gallery. www.calgary.co.uk
Time to head home to Pennygate Lodge as you continue to Dervaig, taking the turn off for Salen which takes you through Mull's interior landscape of lochs, forests and glens - territory of Mull's iconic white-tailed eagles. As you approach Salen look out for the much-photographed old fishing boats on the shore.
